For me this means being calm and centred, maintaining a positive mindset in difficult times, practicing meditation daily, and seeking healing when my self-care routine needs extra support.

When I delay taking care of myself because "I'm too busy" or I think "I can handle it", I find that pretty soon I crumple under the pressure. I become snappy and short-tempered with those I love, behave in ways I later regret, and feel so emotionally wiped that I withdraw from social activity. I feel disappointed in myself because in these moments I know I'm not being my best self and I'm hurting the people I care about.

Distance Reiki supports our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health in the same ways that an In-Person Reiki session provides, but with the added benefit of convenience.

During a Distance Reiki session, Reiki is sent from my healing room as you relax in the comfort of your own home. Oftentimes being in your own familiar space promotes even more relaxation and therefore greater possibilities for healing.

As explained in my Relax into Health article, physical and emotional stress is so detrimental to our health and wellbeing, and Reiki can support our mind, body and soul during these times.

When our Stress Response is activated, even at low levels but chronically, it weakens our immune system making us more susceptible to illness. It also disables our body’s natural ability to self-repair so recovery from illness is slow.

Distance Reiki supports our body to disengage the Stress Response and instead activate our Relaxation Response so that our immune system and self-healing mechanisms can operate at an optimal level.

The Stress Response also shuts down the part of our brain required for rational thinking and creative problem solving, so we end up resorting to reactive behaviours like shouting, withdrawing, procrastinating or controlling. We typically couple this with unhealthy, short-term stress relief in food, alcohol, TV etc.

When we're behaving in these ways we don't feel good about ourselves because we intuitively know we are not being our true self. Our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are coming from a place of unconscious habit, unhealed trauma and social conditioning.

But if we schedule regular Reiki sessions, we can engage our Relaxation Response to interrupt these patterns, gain greater self awareness and wrap our traumatised parts in unconditional love. This is how Reiki can reduce anxiety and depression, reduce pain, increase feelings of wellbeing and improve sleep.

Receiving Distance Reiki is just as transformative as receiving it in person, and is an excellent option to consider during these times of travel restrictions, self-isolation, and limited public gatherings.
